One of Chi Omega's Six Purposes is philanthropy and community service. Our Founders thought it important for Sisters to devote time to causes greater than themselves. Throughout its history, Chi Omega charged each collegiate and alumnae chapter to adopt a philanthropic project according to their local communities’ needs. In the late 1990s, the Governing Council recognized the immense impact that our membership could have within the world of community service, and they began to investigate possible partnerships with national philanthropies.
In 2002, Chi Omega announced the Chi Omega/Make-A-Wish alliance Chi Omega has raised over $5.5 million and given over 375,800 volunteer hours. The Make-A-Wish Foundation® recognizes Chi Omega as one of their Cause Champion sponsors.
Chi Omega's goal is to have both collegiate and alumnae chapters become increasingly involved in volunteering and fundraising for the Make-A-Wish Foundation® and to assist in the granting of wishes to these special children. Through this, all Chi Omegas can understand the importance of service to others as a founding principle of our Sisterhood.
View the Chi Omega guidelines to support your local Make-A-Wish chapter. Chi Omega chapters are encouraged to contact their local Make-A-Wish® chapter, which will have numerous ideas and resources to aid chapters in planning their events. For co-branded Chi Omega/Make-A-Wish merchandise, contact Chi O Creations.
Every event and donation of time or money makes a difference in the lives of wish children and their families!
